The former RAF Fiskerton is situated 5 miles east of the city of Lincoln.
Opened in 1942 as a standard Bomber Command airfield, it's first residents were the Lancasters of 49 Sqn and later on 576 Sqn also operated from here.
Fiskerton was one of a few airfields equipped with a FIDO installation allowing the airfield to remain open in foggy conditions.
The airfield closed in November 1945 and most was eventually sold off in the early 1960's. A small area was retained and became a Royal Observer Corps (ROC) Base, this eventually closed in 1991. |
